Adekunle Gold breaks free on “Catch Me If You Can.”
Adekunle Gold dropped his 4th studio album on the 4th of February, 2022, and instantly went number 1 on the Apple Music Chart in 7 countries, including Nigeria, Ghana and Tanzania. The Nigerian singer-songwriter has come a long way from making hits off covers to making his own original hits, and an appearance as a typical Yoruba young man to the “AG Baby” that he is now.
On this new album, we see the singer-songwriter prove in his own words why “This year [he] no dey humble anything. Talking [his] shit all year round!” His evolution as an artiste, man, husband and father is so glaring to go unnoticed even on the intro track to the album, “Born Again.” He goes on to reflect on the journey so far and look to what’s ahead on records like “Win” and “Mase Mi.”
There’s also few words on there for the haters, naysayers, backstabbers and fake friends. The message is quite clear on “It Is What It Is” and “Mercy.”
Adekunle Gold shows his “AG Baby” side, singing about how smitten he is by his Mrs., Simi. Their occasional public romance has been beautiful to watch, from their 2019 wedding, to having their daughter, till now. He encapsulates all these emotions on records like “One Woman,” “Sinner,” “More Than Enough” and “Sleep.”
For those just down to catch a vibe and have a good time, Adekunle Gold does a superb job of putting together tracks like “High,” “Fye,” “Dior, Dior, Dior” and “Selah.”
On the outro “Catch Me If You Can,” we hear a more reflective and solemn sounding Adekunle Gold, who has finally developed from a cocoon to a butterfly, free, and ready to fly.
All the featured artistes brought their “A” game on every single track, be it Davido, Ty Dolla $ign, Fatoumata Diawara, Lucky Daye, Stefflon Don or Fousheé; and oh the production, divine! The least said the better.
