On Saturday 24th September, 2022, Global Citizen celebrated its 10th anniversary of their Global Citizen Festival on twin stages in Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana, and New York City’s Grand Lawn in Central Park.
This year’s milestone six-week campaign culminated in over $2.4 billion in commitments in line with the organization’s urgent calls to action to end extreme poverty now. In addition, thanks to world leaders, performers, and global citizens everywhere, the event saw 2 million actions taken for girls and for the planet – more than doubling the record previously set by the international advocacy organization.
The nine-hour festival featured artists in Accra and NYC including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Tems, Gyakie, Metallica, Jonas Brothers, Rosalía, Usher, SZA, and Stormzy with participating global leaders across stages including Nana Akuffo Addo, President of Ghana, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of UNFPA, and Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, among many others.
