1-on-1 Interview with Ghanaian Afro-fusion Artist, Demmi.

Ghanaian Afro-fusion artist Demmi, has been making waves with his latest single ‘3x ZOOM.’ This is the second single off his forthcoming EP ‘Still Rollin.’ We caught up with him to unpack the new single and to talk about what the future holds for him. Enjoy!

FOURTH AVENEW: Your new single, “3x Zoom” is out now, what inspired the title and the idea behind this track?

Demmi: “3x Zoom” came from a mindset; that feeling of having to move faster than your surroundings. I was in a space where I needed to block out noise and focus. Life felt like a chase, so I had to zoom in three times harder. The song is basically me telling myself, ‘stay sharp, stay alive, stay focused.’ It’s that hustler anthem for anyone who’s grinding in chaos but still keeping their cool.

F.A: In describing what the song is about you mentioned wanting to be the poster boy of street smartness, how does it reflect your identity as an artist?

D: I grew up in environments where instinct could save you more than luck. So, being street smart is part of my DNA, it’s not just about surviving, it’s about out-thinking the odds. As an artist, I translate that into how I move, how I sound, and how I brand myself. I want people to look at Demmi and see strategy, resilience, and sauce; the kind that’s earned, not borrowed.

F.A: Afro-fusion is a genre led by artists like Burna Boy, Asake, and King Promise. How would you describe your unique approach to the genre for your soon-to-be-released EP?

D: For me, Afro-fusion is a universe, not a box. I blend Afropop melodies with alternative feels, sometimes even rock or soul textures. My upcoming EP, Still Rolling, takes that fusion and turns it into a story, every song is a different mood of a traveler. I call it “motion music.” It’s Afro-pop with grit, depth, and spirit, something that sounds African but feels global.

F.A: “3x Zoom” is your second official single under The Continent Live (TCL). How has working with TCL shaped your music journey so far?

D: TCL has been a solid foundation. They understand artist development, not just distribution. It’s not about rushing hits; it’s about building an artist with intention. Working with them gave me the freedom to experiment while still having a structure that pushes me to deliver. They get my vision; the traveler story, the sound, the visuals, and they’re helping me bring it to life properly.

F.A: As a relatively new artist trying to pay more attention to the music and creativity, what do you think makes you different from the others?

D: I think it’s the honesty. I’m not chasing trends; I’m documenting moments. I mix, master, and design most of my stuff, so every release feels handmade. My music isn’t just about flexing but about perspective. Even when I talk my talk, there’s always reflection in it. I want people to feel seen, not just entertained.

F.A: What are some of the challenges you have faced coming up in the music industry, and how have you scaled them?

D: Access is the biggest one. Sometimes the talent is there, but the gate is locked. I had to learn to build my own gate. I learned production, sound engineering, branding, even business, so I wouldn’t wait on anyone to make my dream move. Every challenge turned into a skillset, and that’s how I keep rolling. Still rolling, literally.

F.A: As your career grows, what legacy do you want to build for yourself in Ghana’s music scene and beyond?

D: I want to be remembered as the artist who built an ecosystem, not just a catalog. The guy who made sound, vision, and style feel like one language. My legacy should inspire creators to own their narrative fully; to be artists, entrepreneurs, and architects of their future. I want people to say Demmi changed how we saw ourselves.
